Me and my MINI

by Robyn on February 10, 2011

It’s hardly a secret that I love driving my MINI Cooper. I bought it so long ago it’s hard to think it’s not brand new any more. It’s a 2003 model that was built in September and delivered to me in late October. When you order a MINI they’ll even give you the date it ships and the ship it is being transported on from Great Britain. So I watched it come over the ocean, get dropped of in Manhattan and then hop a train to California.

We recently went to a British car show. There were new MINIs and old Minis. We saw DeLoreans, yes, they’re British too. And a great bunch of MGs. Mgs started me off loving British cars. I wanted a MGBGT when I was in high school. I would walk down Pacific Coast Highway and drool at the shiny little cars and knew one day I would have to own a British made car. No matter what TopGear has to say about them! ;o)  One of the things people say about MINIs is you get more smiles for the mile. I believe it. When I’m driving I get waves and smiles from all sorts of people. It’s fun to drive too!

Who doesn’t enjoy looking at the workmanship display when looking at vintage cars. I think of the artisans and craftsmen working to refine the “definition” of a certain car. Morgan, for one had the best looking emblems, from which Mini also took to the “wings” format of an emblem design along with many other car companies.

An emblem from a Morgan car. Silver wings with a black cross in the center along with the name Morgan.

One of the most famous Mini drivers, beside Minnie Driver herself, is Mr. Bean. Who doesn’t recognize that guy when he’s climbing out of a Mini.  So I had to take this shot:

The tail light of a Mini Cooper along with a Green Mini in the foreground witha license plate that reads Mr. Bean.

You can see more of my pictures from the car show in my flickr account.

I love the pics! My husband rented a Mini when he was in California last month, and declared it fun, but challenging to fit both his 6’4″ body and all of his luggage in the vehicle simultaneously LOL!

Oh, I am truly so envious that you have a mini! I just love them and can only imagine what a blast they must be to drive. So easy to get around in and such fun to drive I’m sure.
