We love to try small, Mom and Pop places, and I could do one of these, with my local recommendations. I really enjoyed this post and felt like I was visiting with you, on your journey.

I don't know Guy either. I too, have no cable. I love your take on places!

I think it is really important to support local businesses of any kind. Keeping our money in the community is one of the best things we can do for our economy.

President Obama is having a "Job Summit", have you heard? He has invited big CEOs and CFO's to the white house, to talk about the economy. Hear what they have to say. A novel idea. The white house announced yesterday that he is also inviting some local, small business leaders. Well hello!? Ding. Good for him, to recognize that not everyone eats, lives and breaths through huge corporations.

Sometimes, I wonder about this ole world.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I agree. Eating locally just makes so much sense. The food is tastier and healthier. And cheaper! So the question is why wouldn't anyone want to eat locally? It just makes sense.

Cheers!

Nice post, Robin. I don't watch Guy (no cable), but we just ate at a Korean dive last week, and it was fabulous. (I'm venturing to say that Guy hasn't been out here to Wichita to review it...) Maybe the dives that haven't been on his show fare better? Maybe once they've made it on national TV, they just get lazy.

Either that, or we could just all learn to cook for ourselves....

"no coke, just Pepsi." hehehe.

I agree. We also have a recommendation from Guy right up the road... We have lived here for over 30 years and I have never gone into the place, because it LOOKS like a dive and well, it just kind of puts me off. We keep saying we'll go in and see what the fuss is about, I'll let you know, or better yet, how about a visit and we can find out together?

On another hand, literally a block down the road was a great place, a true hole in the wall. The Waffle Iron. A TINY place with only four really small tables shoved up against the wall and a 5 stool bar, a cranky waitress who smart mouthed the locals and regulars like she was their sassy Aunt Sally, and fare that was hi-jacked from your white trash sister in law. White sausage gravy and biscuits, pancakes and ham, and of course WAFFLES! It was only open for breakfast and lunch and the place was standing room only for years. Then one day it shut its' doors forever. I tell you, my kids were BUMMED. It was a hang out for locals, a must stop for the folks on their way 4-wheelin' in the desert, and a complete shock to anyone who didn't know what they were in for.

We sure miss it. : (
